Site Assistant - Greenville, SC
Located at Southern Wesleyan University’s Greenville Learning Center, this position is supportive in nature and reports to the Student Services Coordinator. The primary working relationships are with Academic Records, the deans’ assistants, adjunct and full-time faculty, and non-traditional students, and with personnel in other departments within the university. It supports the mission of Southern Wesleyan University, ensures optimum customer service, offers support to students, faculty, and staff, and encourages them to integrate faith and learning as integral parts of daily living. The position provides feedback to the Student Services Coordinator and supports retention initiatives by providing the highest quality student services. The purpose of the department is to ensure students are having the best possible learning experience. The work hours are Monday through Thursday (4:30 pm-10:00 pm); flexible hours, some weekend work, and some travel may be required.
The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary point of contact for currently enrolled students during their class times, and to ensure smooth operation of the learning center in the evening. The position assists the Student Services Coordinator with routine clerical and physical set-up needs, and assists faculty and students with technology support and general information. The position is also responsible for closing the facility when classes are in session. Primary responsibilities include:
- Student and Faculty Support: Prepares classrooms each day. Greets students and faculty as they arrive and depart. Coordinates scheduled book deliveries to classrooms and conducts follow-up, as needed. Ensures students/faculty sign for all delivered materials. Coordinates book returns from students, or for materials never picked up from the learning center. Ensures paperwork is accurate and complete. Listens carefully and compassionately to student and faculty questions and concerns and forwards them appropriately.
- Technology: Maintains equipment reservation logs, ensures proper check-out and return of equipment; responsible for physical set-up and some troubleshooting of electronic equipment. Reports needed equipment repairs to appropriate personnel.
- Academic Assistance: Administers required Proficiency Profiles or Surveys for AGS students, when deemed appropriate by the university. Proctors make-up tests for faculty. Verifies attendance submission each night. Maintains files for Learning Team Meeting Logs/Evaluation Forms.
- Assists the Student Services Coordinator: Collates student information packets. Maintains emergency contact lists. General filing. Maintains the computer lab schedule and notifies the Student Services Coordinator of any conflicts with the schedule. Maintains the Weekly Classroom Schedule for the learning center. Reports any noted problems with the facility to the Student Services Coordinator. Maintains e-mail, voicemail, and answers the main phone line during work hours. Other duties, as assigned, by the Student Services Coordinator.
- Secures the facility during the week.
- High school diploma required, associate’s degree or some college preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize concerns, requests and expectations to meet deadlines.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Publisher, Outlook, and Excel), office equipment such as a fax machine and copier.
- Capacity to work effectively and cooperatively with students, university faculty, and administration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Multi-task and detail oriented.
- Proactive style in pursuing resolutions to student issues.
- Excellent keyboarding skills.
- Desire to be a team player.

- Physical/Environmental Requirements. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate program policies and procedures to students, as well as to effectively communicate with faculty, staff and administrators in various University departments. Indoor work environment. Ability to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment. Heavy visual acuity: This is standard of color, depth perception and field of vision for use with work dealing with designing, preparing and analyzing data; transcription; computer terminal visualization. Requires frequent lifting of objects up to 30 pounds. May require infrequent travel or work outside of regular work schedule for special events.

This is a regular, 12-month, part-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Salary Level II - $11.04/hour.
