Local families invited to 100-year reunion at SWU
Families from Pickens, Oconee and Anderson counties are invited to participate in the first ever 100-year reunion of the Old Pendleton District scheduled for Saturday, March 27, on the Southern Wesleyan University campus in Central.
The event, which is also open to the public, will include display tables for local families, special presentations, guest speakers, work sessions and more.
Currently, these three counties make up what was once the Pendleton District, an area rich in family history that event sponsors hope to capture and preserve for future generations.
If your family traces its roots back more than 100 years in this area, you may reserve a table to display family Bibles, pictures, old documents, genealogical research or other memorabilia. Copiers, printers and scanners will be available to help share family information.
This unique event is being sponsored by the Birchwood Center for Arts and Folklife, along with Southern Wesleyan University, the Old Pendleton District Genealogical Society, the Pickens County Historical Society, the Pickens County Museum of Art and History, the Central Heritage Society and the Pendleton Historic Commission.
You can reserve a table by sending your name, address and telephone number, along with a check for $10 to the Birchwood Center, P.O. Box 109, Sunset, SC 29685. Be sure to include the family name(s) you will display on your table. The deadline to reserve a table is Monday, March 22. Contact the Birchwood Center at (864) 898-0840 or e-mail for details. You can also go online to the Birchwood Center's Web site at www.birchwoodcenter.org.
