Result of Recent SACS Accreditation Review
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the accrediting body for Southern Wesleyan University. A decennial review was recently completed in December 2009. As a result of the association’s comprehensive review, the university’s accreditation was continued but it was placed on warning for a 12-month period so that areas of concern might be addressed. This included the hiring of additional faculty members, an additional librarian and modification of curriculum in some of its academic programs.
Significant progress has been made by Southern Wesleyan to address all of these concerns. Five new full-time business faculty have been hired to address the faculty oversight concerns around the state. An additional professional reference librarian has begun to improve staffing of our library support in the evenings and on weekends. A comprehensive review of the graduate curricula has been completed and courses have been revised as warranted. Also, additional assessment issues have been addressed to better monitor the quality of our undergraduate offerings. We have no doubt that the quality of the university has been further enhanced as a result of taking these measures, and that already strong programs will be even stronger because of this helpful peer review process.
Please note that the assessment by SACS does not impact any degree earned from Southern Wesleyan University and the school expects to be deemed in full compliance with all SACS recommendations at its next annual meeting in December 2010.
