Two outstanding soloists combine their talents for an evening of harp and violin music on Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Brian Reagin serves as concertmaster of the North Carolina Symphony. Prior to this, he served as assistant concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony and concertmaster of the Cleveland Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra. He has toured and performed around the world with artists such as Yo Yo Ma and Claude Bolling. Anita Burroughs-Price received her first harp lesson on the campus of what was then Central Wesleyan College. She has since gone on to become the principal harpist with the North Carolina Symphony. She has been a featured performer at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and in England's Brighton Palace. Burroughs-Price is a scholar of early harp music and has been the recipient of grants from the United Arts Council for travel to London to research her rare 1810 Erard single-action harp. Diane Ferlatte, storyteller

Storyteller Diane Ferlatte grew up in Louisiana hearing stories on her grandmother's porch. She will share her gift for the art of storytelling Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Southern Wesleyan University. After telling stories for many years at parties, school and libraries, she made storytelling her career. Ferlatte has traveled from Austria to New Zealand and all across the United States sharing stories from her life. She has also served as keynote speaker/storyteller at professional conferences and conventions. Upstate Intercollegiate Choral Invitational Festival

Piano music of Liszt will be featured in a concert by Italian-born pianist, Paolo Gualdi on Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Gualdi has won the top prize in numerous piano competitions, including the Francoise Grimaldi National Competition in San Polo, Italy. He has played recitals in Italy and the United States, and currently serves as assistant professor of piano at Francis Marion University. The annual Southern Wesleyan University spring production offers a hilarious evening with Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance," March 19-20, March 25-27 at 7:30 p.m. Follow the adventures of Frederick as he makes plans with the beautiful Mabel, only to discover that he must remain a pirate apprentice some 60 years past his twenty-first birthday! Flute and piano will pair up for a concert at Southern Wesleyan University on April 8 at 7:30 p.m. Internationally acclaimed flutist Angela Jones is recognized for her multi-faceted career as soloist, chamber artist, orchestral player and teacher. She is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts and the Juilliard School. Following her Juillard studies, Jones went to Italy as the sole recipient of the Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship in music. She was principal flutist with the Stuttgart Philharmonic from 1991 to 2000, and has performed regularly as guest flutist with the Berlin Philharmonic. Jones is currently professor of flute at the University of Georgia. Damon Denton is also a graduate of the Juilliard School. He was a top prize winner and the only American finalist, at the Fourth International Piano Competition held in Praetoria, South Africa. He presently is a resident of Athens, Ga., where he is a frequent guest artist at the University of Georgia. Morehouse College Glee Club, an internationally renowned group from Atlanta, embraces an almost 100 year tradition of musical excellence and achievement. The Glee Club has an impressive history of achievement, having performed nationally and internationally. They have appeared with Natalie Cole for Super Bowl XXVIII, participated with Stevie Wonder, Gloria Estefan and Trisha Yearwood in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games held in Atlanta and recorded the spiritual He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands for Spike Lee’s movie Miracle at St. Anna. In 2008 the Glee Club performed with Aretha Franklin for the 88th Birthday Tribute to the Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery. They have performed internationally in West Africa, Russia, Poland, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and South Africa.
