Assistant Director

Assistant Director of Library Services

Southern Wesleyan University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Library Services.  This individual will take the lead role in library public services operations, including Reference and Information Literacy services, as well as assist the Director of Library Services in management and operation of the library.  This position holds faculty status, but not rank or tenure.  The position is available July 1, 2013.

We are looking for a talented librarian who is prepared to take the lead in providing quality services to our students and faculty and coordinating a team of five librarians for Reference and Information Literacy services.  While there will be some administrative responsibilities associated with this position, the primary role is that of leading in the area of Reference and Information Literacy.  The library has good relationships with faculty and students.  We desire to continue to build on this by increasing and improving our services to all constituents.  In addition to traditional students on our main campus, we serve non-traditional students attending classes at other learning centers as well as online students.  We intentionally provide services through a variety of methods.

The assistant director will assume responsibility for the content and delivery of library information, which may include web pages, Libguides, tutorials, and other means.  Familiarity and experience with web editing, learning managment systems (such as Canvas), and tutorial-creation software (such as Captivate) would be a plus.  The assistant director will have the lead role in this area or will be responsible for coordinating these activities among the team of librarians.

Southern Wesleyan University is a good place to work.  The main campus in Central, South Carolina, is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Greenville, SC, is about 30 minutes away, while Charlotte, NC, and Atlanta, GA, are each about 2 hours distant.  The Carolina coast, including Charleston, is about 4 hours.  Winters are generally mild and summers are bearable.
