Science Division--Biology Major

Biology
Biology at Southern Wesleyan has a Christian orientation--we believe that God created the world, and that He has given us the desire and the ability to discover and understand it, and that we are responsible to take care of it, and the plants and animals on it. We believe that we have God-given responsibilities to treat other persons according to the Golden Rule. A Christian worldview informs all of our courses. All students are also required to take classes in Bible.

What Can You Do with an Undergraduate Major in Biology/Premedicine?
Biology laboratories at SWU are under the direction of the professors, who are physically present, and prepare and teach the labs. However, qualified students may be hired to assist them.
Qualified biology majors may take a practicum at a nearby industry or health care facility as part of their curriculum. Most biology majors take at least five courses in chemistry, and two in physics, so are well-prepared for work in industry, graduate school, or biology related professions.
The major in forensic science shares several courses with the biology major.
We have a cooperative program with Clemson University, which is about five miles away, which allows students to take specialized courses (wildlife biology, for example) that we cannot offer.
