Chemistry
The SWU chemistry program features a program with a Christian orientation—we believe that God created the universe with physical properties, and that He has given us the desire and the ability to discover and understand chemical concepts. A Christian worldview informs all of our courses. All students are required to take classes in Bible.
What Can You Do with an Undergraduate Major in Chemistry?
We feature a cooperative program with Clemson University, which is about five miles away, allowing students to take courses that we can’t offer because of faculty load. This includes physical chemistry for chemistry majors. This means that all our chemistry majors have the opportunity to experience a small, intimate environment in instruction, and also a large state university environment. Both experiences are valuable in teaching our students to adjust, and to learn about different styles of doing things.
The Chemistry and Biology programs at SWU are intimately linked. All biology majors take at least two chemistry courses, and those who pursue a B. S. in Biology take at least five. Most chemistry majors also take biology courses.
The major in forensic science shares several courses with the chemistry major.
