Twin brothers Donnie and Ronnie Ellis were influenced by their aunt, Betty Ellis (’85), to attend Southern Wesleyan University. Both agree that Southern Wesleyan gave them a strong foundation that serves them well as they serve others through their careers.
Ronnie:
“She told us how SWU is a good college not only for your educational background but your spiritual growth, too. That really attracted us to the school. Being raised in a Christian home, we were always taught that you put God before everything. He directed our path to Southern Wesleyan. The Promise Fund really helped us out because we wanted to see other students get the same opportunity that we got here – getting an education with a Christian perspective.”
Donnie:
“We see how it can benefit others to get the education that we got. What motivated us was staying in the word of God, just praying and reading, studying the Bible and staying rooted. I enjoy going to a small college versus going a big college where I could stay focused on my schoolwork and more importantly on my relationship with God. My relationship with God grew to another level while at SWU.”
Ronnie:
“When I was here at SWU, I was coming into a college where you were made to take courses that pertained to your personal faith. It was different at first. The teaching helped me to grasp and understand more about the Bible and how to apply it in my personal life, which helped me grow spiritually.”
Donnie:
“I see myself in the next five or 10 years living out the scripture saying you live from faith to faith, from glory to glory. So I’m looking at expanding and going to another glory. Whatever God has for me.”
Ronnie:
“Ditto.”
