Julie Plummer
AGS student
Charleston, S.C.

For Charleston student, SWU program fit her schedule,
affirmed her values

For an up-and-coming young professional, a master’s degree program had better be a good fit.

Sharpening Skills in healthcare communications

Julie M. Plummer directs public relations for Trident Health System, which is comprised of three full-service hospitals that serve the Charleston, S.C. area. Plummer started her career as community relations manager for Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga., where she was later promoted to interim director of marketing and public relations.

Plummer became familiar with Southern Wesleyan University through her husband Chris, who obtained his master’s degree in education in 2006. She decided to enroll in the master of science in management program.

Finding Balance between work, family and school was easy

The thought of returning to school while working full-time was a difficult decision, but Southern Wesleyan’s admission process made the transition a smooth one,” Plummer said. “The professors are always willing to help and the idea of having class just one night a week makes it possible to balance work, family and school."

While serving in her interim director status, Plummer enrolled with Southern Wesleyan University to obtain her master of science in management degree. Plummer later was promoted to director of marketing and public relations for Doctors Hospital.

She appreciates the Christian atmosphere of Southern Wesleyan and how her professors open class with devotionals and prayer.

“It helps you remember why you’re there. God gave us the ability to excel, to learn and to grow,” Plummer said.

Plummer says her SWU experience brings Psalm 32:8 to mind:

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”
