Courtney Sellers ‘12
Forensics major
Conway, S.C.
A choice worth investigating
When she was a junior in high school, Courtney Sellers was selected to attend the Academy for the Arts, Sciences and Technology. There she attended classes in Pre-Med and learned of an opportunity to intern at the Horry County Police Department. Fascinated by the work of the Crime Team Unit, Courtney learned about testing for drugs and the equipment used in investigations.
Courtney’s online search for a Forensics program turned up Southern Wesleyan University, where she applied. Since starting at SWU, Courtney feels she has made a good choice.
“I don’t see a bunch of strangers – everyone cares about each other. The teachers are so different from everywhere else,” she said. “ It’s really encouraging to know your professors care about you.”
“If you go to them with a problem – my professors help you through it instead of making you feel dumb. They’ll just do little things to encourage you. “
In addition to an interest in Forensics, the Carolina Forest High graduate reigns as Miss Sun Fun Teen 2009 and this past November competed with others statewide for the crown of Miss South Carolina Teen USA.
Sellers’ goal is to earn master’s degree and to become a forensic specialist.
