It’s a community

“It’s more of a community here,” said Byron Wimphrie, an education graduate who was also a member of the Warriors Basketball Team. He transferred to Southern Wesleyan University after spending his freshman year at another university.

“On the campus everything is close together – no place is too far for walking,” said Wimphrie, adding that the faculty and staff are courteous and open.

“The professors really care about their students and whether or not they learn. They know your name.” Wimphrie also discovered that at SWU it’s easy to make friends.

Finding God

Wimphrie says he has grown spiritually since coming to Southern Wesleyan University, thanks to numerous opportunities for spiritual growth includine Bible studies at the residence halls and apartments.

“The main reason is it’s a place to find God,”
Wimphrie said.

Wimphrie said the education program is a challenging one, but with challenges come greater confidence in the classroom. Spending many hours of observation in area schools, Wimphrie has already taught some lessons and put to practical use what he’s learned from his studies.

“Right now I’m majoring in physical education and trying to be a basketball coach. My dream is to coach college basketball,” he said.

When someone asks
Wimphrie about his choice to attend Southern Wesleyan, he says, “I would tell them it’s a great place to get involved in things and to open up and find out about yourself. It’s a great place to have friendships.”
