Students learn while promoting gardenSouthern Wesleyan University business students in Columbia recently took on the S.C. Crime Victims Memorial Garden as a class project. Above, students Pam Shull of Lexington, left, and Mike Wallace also of Lexington, present a project analysis to representatives of the S.C. Crime Victims Council. The council plans to build a garden memorial in Columbia’s Riverfront Park to commemorate crime victims. The project provided a real-life working environment for the practical application of business theory. Using the skills introduced in the classroom, students presented publicity and fund-raising suggestions for the garden and analyzed the garden plans, proposing options for cost savings. The students are focusing on effective means of fund-raising, social media, web presence and marketing. The university class was composed of working adults continuing their undergraduate degree in business administration. The students were in the Management of Information Systems course taught by Phil Bartlett. |
