Class Reps/Alternates
During the first course of the program, your class will choose a representative and an alternate (who assumes the duties if the representative is out of class for a period of time). Class representatives are usually volunteers who act as a liaison between the class and staff, faculty, and administration. This role requires the representative to speak on behalf of the class and to bring information from faculty, staff and/or administration to the class.
The typical responsibilities of the class representative include:
- Coordinating the delivery of important information to class members, such as class cancellations due to inclement weather or faculty member illness.
- Serving as class spokesperson in order to maintain a constructive dialogue with SWU.
- Distributing and collecting the End-of-Course Survey, the Mid-Sequence Survey, and the End-of-Sequence Survey and returning them to the AGS office.
- Assisting class members and instructors at the beginning of a course by, for example, contacting the faculty member prior to the first class meeting with questions about the first assignment and sharing that information with the class.
- Notifying the Student Services Coordinator of class members who may need assistance from AGS Student Services.
- Participating in class representative meetings.
- Organizing social events, as appropriate.
