2014 P.B. Wood Golf tournament benefits Southern Wesleyan

    First-Place winners of the P.B. Wood Golf Tournament are Johnny Ross of Anderson, John Ross of Anderson, Marty Atcheson of Central, and John Atcheson of Six Mile. Each won a set of JPX 825 Mizuno Irons. The tournament, named for SWU professor emeritus and noted psychologist P.B. Wood, benefits the Promise Fund.

    Golf teams teed off Oct. 14 at Pickens Country Club for Southern Wesleyan University's annual P. B. Wood Golf Tournament, sponsored by First Citizens Bank.

    Prizes were awarded as follows:

    • First-Place: John Atcheson, Marty Atcheson, John Ross and Johnny Ross. Each won a set of JPX 825 Mizuno Irons.
    • Second-place: Glen Simpson, Dan Wood, P.B. Wood and Pete Wood. Each won a JPX 825 Mizuno Driver.
    • Third-Place: Melinda Graham, Stephen Graham, Jerry Jennings and Mark Syracuse. Each won a Mizuno MP R12 Wedge.
    • Closest to pin winners: John Atcheson (Hole 3) and Jesse West (Hole 17). Each won a Mizuno umbrella and baseball cap.
    • Longest Drive: On hole 10, Dan Wood had the longest drive and won a Hybrid Club.
    • Team Putting Contest winners John Blackwood, Joe Christopher, Burnette Kelly and Dennis Schwab. All received a custom made Robet J. Bettinardi NCCAA Commemorative Putter.

    “The funds raised from the P.B. Wood Golf Tournament support The Promise Fund, which provides student scholarship assistance and uplifts the areas of greatest need for Southern Wesleyan University,” said Dr. Lisa McWherter, vice president for development.

    The title sponsor for this year’s tournament was First Citizens Bank; event sponsor was Palmetto Insurance; platinum sponsors were Coy Huffman & Associates and Ram Technologies; and the gold sponsors were Chipotle Mexican Grill and The Parkette.
