    Dr. Betty Mealy, English professor at Southern Wesleyan University, was the guest speaker at the Pickens County Literacy Association’s annual appreciation banquet July 13 at Pickens Presbyterian Church. Mealy stressed the importance of literacy as a key to building a career and achieving the American dream. The banquet honored tutors, students, the association’s board members and other community supporters.
