Southern Wesleyan University applied for a $35,150 grant to offer classes for teaching the Gifted and Talented in the Columbia area.

This year’s grant would bring to $150,480 the total of funding received since the first grant application in 2008. According to G. Fred Woodworth, education professor, courses will be offered this year at Southern Wesleyan’s Columbia site, a decision made in response to the lack of proposals to offer courses in the area. The grant will focus on teachers located in school districts along the I-20 corridor from North Augusta to Florence, Marion and Dillon.

“In the past, we have used the grant to make an inroad to school districts and make contact with teachers who have subsequently come into our graduate programs,” Woodworth said.
