ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT LIFE

Southern Wesleyan University is accepting applications for the position of Associate Vice President for Student Life (AVPSL). The position is available to start July 1, 2011. The university's mission is “to help men and women become all God intends them to be” by creating an atmosphere in which members of the university community work together toward wholeness through the integration of personal faith, intellectual pursuits, and practical living. The university seeks to meet the needs of students with various abilities and backgrounds, enabling them to realize their personal, professional and educational goals.

Responsibilities

    The Associate Vice President for Student Life (AVPSL) reports directly to the Vice President for Student Life to advise, coordinate and recommend student life policy, programs and services in support of the University’s mission and strategic goals. The AVPSL is responsible for the development of a comprehensive program that focuses on developing the leadership potential of students and oversees the new student orientation program. The AVPSL is also responsible for the supervision of staff and the accompanying programs in Career Services, Freshman Experience and Retention, and Student Activities.

Requirements

    A doctorate in a related field is preferred with a master’s degree, also in a related field, is required along with training and/or three to five years of successful administrative leadership in the area of student life administration or associated field. The AVPSL must possess excellent communication, organizational, problem solving and management skills with proven ability to support a team approach to planning and effective coordination of programs and personnel. The AVPSL must possess a high level of integrity, ability to manage confidential issues and build effective relationships with students, faculty and staff. The AVPSL must demonstrate values and beliefs consistent with the evangelical Christian mission of the University, the principles and positions of the Wesleyan Church, the University’s community lifestyle standards and have the ability to relate and work effectively with people.
