The Southern Wesleyan Community: We believe that Southern Wesleyan is a unique community that is made up of an exceptional body of students, faculty, and staff. We want to share a little of this community with you in a session led by our Vice President for Student Life, Dr. Joe Brockinton.

Holding On and Letting Go: Letting go of a child can be one of the many challenges that comes with being a parent. With your student’s new found freedom it will be important to know how to support your student in this time of transition. Please join us for a session specifically for parents led by University Nurse, Mrs. Lori Herron, on how to handle the transition that lies ahead.

Meet Your Professors: This is a time for students to meet with professors and fellow students in their specific departments to discuss the upcoming semester of classes. Please make sure to attend as there will be valuable information given at these meetings.

Passing the Mantle: A SWU tradition not to be missed! This ceremony is SWU’s way of acknowledge the beginning of a new chapter in a student’s life here at SWU, and does so by recognizing that a student’s family as an important part of that transition. Please join us for this very special time as your student closes one chapter, and begins another!

Attend a Local Church:  Finding a local church in college is an important step in making SWU feel like home. During this portion of orientation we will provide a number of churches to check out during your first Sunday in town. Our hope is that you will eventually find a church that will help you grow spiritually while you are in college!

Annoying Your Professors: All students want to get on their professors’ “good side”, and this session will help them do just that as they learn what not do to in their first set of classes. Led by History Professor Michael Keaton, he will undoubtedly have some good tips to share.

Personal Wholeness Part I: At SWU we are not only interested in your academic development, we are also interested in your holistic development. This session is an introduction to a class you will participate in throughout your time at SWU. This session is designed for you to get to know some of your peers who will be in your first Personal Wholeness course, and will also provide you with some essential information to help you get started at SWU from some seasoned SWU students and a faculty or staff member. This will be a great time to prepare for the semester to come, and get you started on the right foot!
