Servant Leadership Institute

FEBRUARY 21, 2014

University Mission

Southern Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered, student-focused learning community devoted to transforming lives by challenging students to be dedicated scholars and servant-leaders who impact the world for Christ.

The SWU Servant Leadership Institute is a conference that offers the Southern Wesleyan community a unique opportunity to further their commitment to the university’s mission by developing skills as servant leaders and applying the principles of servant leadership outside of the classroom.  Servant leadership is a philosophy or worldview established on the premise that competent leaders are those who seek to serve their followers first. It is at the opposite end of the spectrum from the traditional world philosophy of “leader first,” or “me first” leadership. Robert Greenleaf, one of the first to develop the philosophy states “The servant leader is servant first…It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve.”  Through the lens of servant leadership, this conference endeavors to equip students with a myriad of skills, resources and opportunities to positively impact the campus and surrounding communities.
