Opening convocation

Fall semester classes started Aug. 17 at Southern Wesleyan University in Central. Faculty, staff and students marked the first day of class with a campus-wide convocation. Participating in the event are, from left, Dr. Gloria Bell, academic vice president and dean; Jasmyn Byrd, student government association president; and Dr. Betty Mealy, professor of English. Mealy is the 2004-2005 Faculty Member of the Year and was the featured speaker at the convocation, urging students to “embrace a higher calling.”
