SWU receives ‘Best in Southeast’
rating from Princeton Review

Southern Wesleyan University has been ranked as one of the best in the Southeast by The Princeton Review, according to Robert Franek, publisher, editorial director and author of “The Best 361 Colleges.”

“Southern Wesleyan University is one of 140 schools on the site receiving our Best in the Southeast designation. We believe these schools uphold the standards of our Best Southeastern College distinction and provide students with a wide breadth of excellent schools to consider,” Franek said.

Prospective students from across the nation use The Princeton Review to prepare for the SAT and to learn more about colleges and universities. Southern Wesleyan University has received the Best in the Southeast ranking for the second consecutive year in a row.

“We are proud to be designated as a ‘Best in the Southeast’ university by The Princeton Review for 2006,” Southern Wesleyan University President David Spittal said. “As our student population increases and our main campus continues to grow, we’re proud to spread our good news to potential students.”

Southern Wesleyan University is attracting record numbers of students as it prepares to celebrate 100 years of providing a quality education with a Christian perspective.

The university was founded nearly 100 years ago by leaders who promised to “help men and women become what God has designed them to be.”

“In 2006, the university will celebrate 100 years of achieving that goal,” said Janelle Beamer, university spokesperson. “The year will be filled with events that commemorate the university’s history and celebrate its future.”

Southern Wesleyan University prepares students for leadership and graduate study in such fields as religion, education, music, business, medicine, law and a variety of civic and social service professions. Southern Wesleyan offers 32 major areas of study for undergraduates and graduate degrees in the areas of business, education and ministry. The university’s main campus is in Central and there are regional learning centers across the state, in locations such as Greenville, Columbia, Charleston and North Augusta.

Today at Southern Wesleyan University, administrators and professors are working to meet the needs of record numbers of students.

“The student population at Southern Wesleyan has been growing consistently during the last decade,” Beamer said. “Today, statewide enrollment figures are approaching 2,500.”
