Student dies in motorcycle crash

Stuart Michael Whitmire, 21, of 310 Cherokee Ridge Road, Tamassee, S.C., died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, in a motorcycle crash. He was riding on Highway 130 just after 3 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown from it. He died at the scene.

A native of Oconee County, Stuart was the son of Michael Shuford and Teresa Kelley Whitmire. He was a part-time employee of Clemson University, student of Southern Wesleyan University at the Central campus and member of the Salem United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the church choir.

In addition to his parents, Stuart was survived by a brother, Mack Whitmire, Tamassee, S.C.; grandparents, Ralph and Rilla Whitmire, Salem, S.C.; Charles L. Kelley, Salem, Lucy F. Rogers, Salem; and girlfriend, Nikki Burrell, West Union, S.C.

Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m., Nov. 26, 2005, at Salem United Methodist Church, with a committal service following in the church cemetery.
