Student dies after auto accident

SWU student Wendell Lamar Heyward of Johns Island entered into eternal rest on the morning of July 13, 2005. He died of trauma after an automobile accident in Columbia.

He was the son of Mrs. Priscilla M. Heyward and the late Rev. George W. Heyward, Jr.; brother of Mrs. Janice H. Higgins (Jerry), Mr. George W. Heyward, III, and Ms. Patrice M. Heyward; and nephew of Mrs. Earline Kinloch, Ms. Gertrude Heyward, Mrs. Emily James, Mrs. Eloise Pearson and Mrs. Arlonia (Alfreddie) Brown.

He was a business administration major and a rising senior. He was a graduate of Wodberry Forest High School and had also attended The Citadel. He enjoyed reading and had planned to attend graduate school and playing at the next level in basketball after graduating from Southern Wesleyan University.

In high school, Heyward had been all-rookie, all-prep, team MVP and had been selected for all-state three times.
