Gospel Extravaganza at SWU
Southern Wesleyan University’s 13th annual Gospel Extravaganza will be April 9 at 3 p.m.
Local praise teams, choirs and interpretive movement groups will take center stage at the university’s main campus in Central. The event is open to the community and admission is free.
The event’s theme is “Music is the Voice of God.” Emcees for the Gospel Extravaganza will be Pastor W.C. and Lady J. Honeycutt of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Seneca.
The praise and worship event will be opened by FTroop, an interpretive group consisting of Oconee County School District students who perform sign language. Southern Wesleyan University’s Sing With Unity Gospel Choir will also be featured. Choirs have been invited from across the region. To perform are Travelers Rest Mass Choir of Spartanburg, Oconee Mass Choir of Seneca, the choirs of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Seneca, USC Upstate Gospel Choir of Spartanburg, the Praise Team of New Life Worship Center of Central and others.
An offering will be collected for Abraham Deng, one of the Lost Boys of the Sudan. Funds are being raised to send Deng to visit his family in Africa. He has not seen them in more than 19 years.
