Biology professor earns applause at banquet

Dr. Rocky Nation, associate professor of Biology at Southern Wesleyan University, received an Excellence in Teaching award at a banquet in Columbia on April 17. The award, presented by S.C. Independent Colleges and Universities, was one of 19 presented by SCICU to outstanding teachers from each of its member institutions. The award was presented by George Acker, Duke Energy’s vice president for S.C. Business and Community Relations and chairman of the SCICU board. Each honoree received a framed certificate and a $3,000 professional development grant. Nation is currently Southern Wesleyan University’s teacher of the year. Also, Nation has published a paper, “The Influence of Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) on Land Snail Diversity in a Southern Mixed Hardwood Forest.” The paper appeared in The American Midland Naturalist.
