 Andrews honored at SWU Baccalaureate Chapel  

Dr. David Spittal, right, president of Southern Wesleyan University, presents Rev. Fred Andrews with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree as his wife Sondra looks on. Spittal praised Andrews as a servant leader, a dedicated pastor, a district leader and a mentor to many of the university’s ministerial students. Andrews, who is retiring after 30 years of service as senior pastor of First Wesleyan Church in Central , delivered the sermon May 8 at Southern Wesleyan’s spring Baccalaureate Chapel, held in Folger Fine Arts Auditorium on the campus in Central. Delivering the message “Strong Treasures – Weak Containers,” Andrews spoke about how God demonstrates his power in humans who allow Him to work through them. The service concluded with the presentation of towels bearing the Southern Wesleyan University seal to the graduates as a symbol of Christian service.
