Marking a milestone for new students

Beverly Cleveland of Westminster presents her son Jeremy with a medallion during a Passing the Mantle ceremony Jan. 11 in Founders’ Hall at Southern Wesleyan University's Central campus. The medallion is symbolic of students starting a new season in their lives spiritually and academically.

Samuel Smith (left) of Sunset wears the medallion given him by his father Tim Smith during the Passing the Mantle ceremony. During the ceremony, Dr. Joe Brockinton, vice president for student life, urged the new students to be strong and courageous and to trust God as they face the future. Rev. Ken Dill, university chaplain, led a blessing of students and parents, and the group “Sing with Unity” led in musical worship.
