Assignment one: service

Southern Wesleyan University student Ethan Bourne of Denton, N.C., prunes shrubbery on the grounds of the Central History Museum during a community service project Aug. 16. Bourne, a transfer student majoring in music, was among a group of new students who cleared brush, weeded and swept walkways outside the museum. On the day before fall classes started, Southern Wesleyan sent 14 groups of students to various community sites where they cleaned, organized, painted, did yard work and performed various other services.
