Concerts free at Southern Wesleyan in March
CENTRAL,
S.C. -- There’s music in the spring air during March
at Southern Wesleyan University.
As
part of the university’s Fine Arts Series, there
will be several performances during the month of March.
Each performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in Folger Fine Arts
Auditorium on Wesleyan Drive at the university’s
Central campus. Admission is free to all three events.
The
SWU Choirs and Jazz Ensemble are back from their Spring
Tour and ready to entertain with their concert March 8.
Pianist
Huntley Brown will be center stage March 18. Brown learned
to play the piano as a child in Jamaica by imitating his
brothers. After obtaining performance degrees at universities
in the United States, he has ministered through his music
to people across the world. As one fan put it, “Huntley
plays as if God is whispering in his ears.”
The
Southern Appalachia Chamber Singers wrap up the month’s
performances March 29. The Chamber Singers, under the
direction of Dr. Joel F. Reed, are one of the finest choral
groups in this region. The singers performed at the Spoleto
Festival this past May and have been asked to return next
year. Their program features choral music with a variety
of styles.
