Winter Weekend previews life at SWU
A weekend of fun awaits prospective students attending Southern Wesleyan University’s annual Winter Weekend.
The event takes place on Nov. 19 and 20, and is open for anyone in ninth grade or higher who might be considering attending Southern Wesleyan. The cost is $25 per person, and the first 300 people to register will receive a free “Winter Weekend 2004” T-shirt. There will also be other chances to win prizes and cash. The largest youth group in attendance wins a TV/DVD combo.
Weekend entertainment includes Mosaic and Shaun Groves, and speaking will be Ken Klein.
The music of Mosaic has been termed as different from anything one might expect to hear in a typical church service.
The band says, “To use a severely overused cliché, ‘this band rocks!’ (Or has been known to on several occasions).” They approach music the way the audience does; they listen to the artists they like and can relate to, then they create music that is similar to those preferences. Mosaic is a ministry of First Wesleyan Church, located in High Point, N.C.
Shaun Groves is one of Christian music’s most prolific singer/songwriters. As the only new artist with a number one AC radio hit in 2001 or 2002, five top ten singles and tours with Jars of Clay, Bebo Norman, Avalon and a 2003 European tour with Michael W. Smith, Shaun released his sophomore effort, “Twilight” last fall. Since leading the pack of new artist nominations at the 2002 Dove Awards, CCM Magazine’s recent cover artist has captivated audiences across the nation with his inimitable wit, honest lyrics and notable melodic sensibilities.
Ken Klein has served The Wesleyan Church for 10 years in a number of preaching and ministering roles, which include a four-year term as southern area director for the Department of Youth. He is currently serving as executive pastor at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, located in Thomasville, N.C.
