School of Business focus of ceremony

Southern Wesleyan University’s Alumnus of the Century Dr. Virgil Mitchell also spoke during the service, addressing the business students.
“Your place of ministry will be in the workplace,” Mitchell said. “You are highly honored to have the faculty that you have. We’re proud of you.”
Dr. Jeff Moore, dean of the School of Business, welcomed the crowd and presented awards to two students and a faculty member.
“The purpose of the commissioning service is to dedicate the school of business, which was created recently as a part of internal restructuring here at Southern Wesleyan University. We’re dedicating ourselves and the work of our hands to bring God glory,” Moore said.
The Outstanding Female Business Student of the Year is Marina Barcaglioni of Pendleton, a mathematics and accounting major. The Outstanding Male Business Student of the Year is Kyle Blackwell of Westminster, a business administration and accounting major. The students each received a $2,000 scholarship in addition to their award.
Moore also presented Professor James Bowen with the School of Business Faculty of the Year Award. A scholarship for accounting excellence was founded in his honor.
“We have many excellent professors,” Bowen said. “It’s the body of Christ we represent. It’s a privilege to be here.
“We have an opportunity to make a difference one student at a time.”
