Fine Arts events at Southern Wesleyan University’s Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center




Sept. 30, 7:30 p.m. - Dr. AnnaMaria Cardinalli-Padilla, guitar

As part of Southern Wesleyan University’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the university presents Dr. Cardinalli-Padilla, a classical and flamenco guitarist. Her style speaks of her proud heritage as an 18th-generation Santa Fean, a link to the world’s best-preserved enclave of Spanish colonial culture. As a singer, her voice reveals the warmth of her Mediterranean ancestry. Her talent has brought her concert and recital engagements worldwide. The event is at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on Southern Wesleyan University’s campus in Central. Admission is free. For details, call (864) 644-5404.



Oct. 13, 7:30 p.m. - Palmetto Statesmen Barbershop Chorus, directed by Dr. Don Campbell

With a history that dates back to 1951, this barbershop group promises to entertain under the direction of Southern Wesleyan University music professor Dr. Don Campbell. Ranking in the top third of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s 800 chapters, the group includes more than 40 men from every walk of life. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. in Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on Southern Wesleyan University’s campus in Central. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under age 12. Call (864) 644-5191 for tickets and details. Discounts are available for groups of 10 more. SWU faculty, staff and students enter free with valid ID, but tickets must be reserved. Tickets will also be available at the door.



Oct. 23, 7:30 p.m. - Dedication Concert

This celebration of the dedication of Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center will feature performances by Southern Wesleyan University’s Concert Choir, Jazz Ensemble, University Singers and Wind Ensemble. The Fine Arts Division faculty will also participate. The event is at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on Southern Wesleyan University’s campus in Central. Admission is free. Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m. - Upstate Intercollegiate Choral Invitational Festival

Developed by SWU professor Dr. Don Campbell in 2000, this choral festival has featured choirs from South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina.
