Counseling Services

…to provide appropriate and timely counseling to all students.

A Place to Reflect, Explore, and Heal

The best counseling enables you to discover your own answers, gifts and life direction. To that end, Southern Wesleyan University provides free professional counseling to students on request. No student needs to struggle or cope alone; we are here to support their growth and wholeness, regardless of the issues represented. Counseling Center staff are committed to helping every student succeed in reaching academic, emotional, spiritual, and life goals, despite challenges.

Issues common to young adults and college students include:

–  Family issues

–  Roommate issues

–  Stress and time management

–  Conflict resolution and anger management

–  Sexuality and relationships

–  Spiritual growth

–  Transition to college and homesickness

–  Managing crises and academic demands

-   Adjustment to a disability or chronic illness

Services Offered

•    Personal counseling for SWU students

•    Guidance on choosing a major and career

•    Referrals to outside agencies when needed

Confidentiality

A student’s name and issues will not be disclosed outside of a counseling session. Only a client can permit confidential information to be released. We are not asked to give knowledge gained in the counselor-client relationship to other campus employees.

We provide confidential assistance with problems such as drug and alcohol use, sexual immorality, date rape and other behaviors not in compliance with SWU’s conduct expectations. We support the policies and expectations of the SWU lifestyle, and are aware that students are not always in agreement with those expectations. We do not report or discipline misconduct, but support every student-client-patient in making the wisest and healthiest decisions possible for them. We can and will break confidentiality when we believe the client is a danger to self or others, or in response to a court order.
