Crime Statistics:

Early Alert

At Southern Wesleyan, we believe in being intentional about helping students succeed. The Early Alert System has been implemented to identify students who are struggling with the academic rigor of college. Once identified, students are referred to campus resources or given the opportunity to meet regularly with a sponsor for assistance and support.

Why?

The retention research strongly supports the value of creating a personalized educational experience through intentional, intrusive advising that monitors students’ progress and intervenes if problems arise.

What?  What will be accomplished through Early Alert?

Students will:

  • Realize faculty/staff/at SWU care about them
  • Know about campus resources
  • Assess the reasons they’ve missed class or not participated
  • Understand the importance of class attendance and participation
  • Student success

Who?  Who makes referrals to Early Alert?

            Faculty and Staff

When?

Reasons for Referrals from Faculty/Staff:

  • Excessive absences
  • Excessive tardiness/Not participating in class
  • Not turning in assignments
  • Lack of preparation for class
  • General concern because of student’s behavior
