Sigma Delta Peer Mentoring

Sigma Delta Peer Mentoring is a program designed to assist new and transfer students with the transition into the SWU community. A strong peer-mentoring program is an integral part of the First Year Experience. We call our peer mentors “Sigma Delta” leaders, standing for “fellow servants.”
| Research shows that professors are most helpful with academic and career advice but peer mentors are most helpful and have more influence in social and college transition issues. Our Sigma Delta mentors participate in specialized training to develop skills that encourage and integrate new students.

| Each Freshman Seminar course section is co-facilitated by two Sigma Delta leaders. In addition to helping teach the course, they encourage community building by planning 4-5 “fun” activities during the Fall Semester. Becoming a Sigma Delta peer mentor is an excellent way to serve others and develop leadership skills that will stay with you for life. | |
