Mission/Purpose Statement

The SWU orientation is designed to assist traditional students in becoming acclimated and familiar with the university’s campus traditions, values, beliefs and academic requirements as well as to expose them to student life.

Reasons why orientation is important for all traditional students:

  • New students (freshman and transfers) will be introduced to the campus in a more comprehensive way.
  • Orientation will provide students with opportunities to interact with their peers and build relationships prior to beginning classes.
  • Orientation will create opportunities for students to meet the faculty, staff and administration.
  • Orientation will present new students with relevant information pertaining to the policies, procedures, services, missions and lifestyle expectations of the campus.
  • Orientation will address and highlight some of the social and developmental challenges that many college students face.

Socialization and Community Building

Numerous activities have been infused into NSO to build community and social interaction, starting with the PlayFair entertainment and other activities such as karaoke night, party in the CLC, community service, a movie on the lawn, faculty/staff dessert fellowship and JAM sessions with your Sigma Delta leaders.
