We All Need Help Sometimes

Free professional counseling is rarely available outside the university setting. SWU provides free professional counseling on request. The best counseling enables you to discover your own answers, gifts and life direction. Counseling is helping, not telling. You don’t have to flounder in academic panic without help. You can achieve your goals in spite of a difficult home situation. You can find healing for past hurts and wrongs. You can find support during doubt and struggle. You can gain new insight to deal with a difficult roommate, professor or spouse. Seek reassurance for good decisions. You do not have to struggle alone. There is help. Even grief is easier when shared.Confidentiality – This is how it works

  • A student’s name and counseling issues will not be disclosed.
  • We provide confidential assistance with problems such as drug and alcohol use, sexual immorality, date rape and other behaviors not in compliance with SWU’s expectations.
  • We are not asked to give knowledge gained in the counselor-client relationship to other campus employees.
  • Only a client can release us from this commitment.
  • We can and will break confidentiality when we believe the client is a danger to self or others, or in response to a court order.
  • When necessary to serve students better, we will discuss cases with consulting professionals, but disguise details to protect your privacy.
  • We comply with and espouse SWU lifestyle expectations, and encourage students to do so through self discipline and personal growth.
