Adult student earning degrees

I was a little worried about attending school because it had been about 20 years since I had attended any type of formal education. I soon found out that there were other students thinking the same thing. - Will Amos |

In 1992, I left active duty in the U.S. Air Force after serving 11 years as a chaplain’s assistant. I am currently in the Air Force Reserves, where I work as a chaplain’s assistant at Charleston Air Force Base.
After leaving active duty, I soon found employment with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The only bad thing about that job was that there were not many opportunities for advancement and I had no degree to lean on.
I had been there for a few years when the Air Force asked me to perform some active duty days. Those days turned out to be one year. After my tour of duty was finished, I found employment with Trident Technical College as an administrative assistant, then in a human resources position.
While working at Trident, I realized that in order to move forward in my career, a college education was needed. I needed something that would work with my busy schedule. One day while driving home from work, I heard an advertisement on the radio about Southern Wesleyan University. It sounded interesting, so I wrote the number down to give them a call.
I was a little worried about attending school because it had been about 20 years since I had attended any type of formal education. I soon found out that there were other students thinking the same thing. Knowing that I was not alone really helped me and I began to feel better about my decision to attend Southern Wesleyan University.
I went through the whole program -128 credit hours. I, along with all of my study group members, graduated in May, 2002.
Currently, I, along with those same study group members, am earning a Master of Science in Management degree from SWU. |
