3 Best Places to Relax on Campus

Madison shares her personal favorite places to relax and unwind on Southern Wesleyan University's campus.

by Madison Janke on April 03, 2019

With classes, labs, jobs, and studying, it can be hard to squeeze in time to relax. Papers aren't going to write themselves; but you have to take some time out of your day or week to sit back and do nothing. I find that when I take the time to relax and refocus on my priorities, I'm not as stressed out as I thought I was. Relaxation really helps me put things in my life in perspective. I love having the opportunity to be a part of a school that really cares about its students and goes out of its way in order to make our college experience so memorable. One thing I love about Southern Wesleyan University is that there are many different places on campus where students can just relax. Out of all the places SWU has to relax, my top 3 favorite places around campus are on the back deck of the Joiner-Hilson Complex, hanging up my hammock outside of Stuart Bennett, and sitting in Blue Hill!

I think we can all agree that the Joiner-Hilson Complex is pretty incredible but my favorite part about it is the deck outside. Whenever the weather is nice, I'll head out there with a book, some music and just sit there under the sun. Also, don't be afraid to just sit out there with nothing but silence and think. I love sitting out there because you're bound to find someone to talk to and if not, it may even be quiet enough to take a nap!

Now, Blue Hill Coffee & Tea Co. can be pretty busy on most days but I've found that if you go at the right time, there are very few people in there. I usually head over there after a class, order my iced dark mocha, and sit down on the couch and pass the time by scrolling through social media or do a little online shopping. As with most places around SWU, you'll probably run into a few friends and get chatting which can also be a way to relax and take your mind off of things! I always welcome talking to friends because even though it's nice to relax by yourself, it's even better to sit down and chat with a friend!

To be honest, one of the little things that drew me to SWU was the ENO (Eagles Nest Outfitters) Hammock Nest outside of Stuart Bennett where you can hang your hammock. I love to relax in my hammock! It's so relaxing to me to just sit there and let the breeze swing your hammock. There might have been a few times that I've taken a nap out there, and there's no shame in that. Spending time outside is really relaxing after being in classes all day.

So get outside and enjoy the campus! Take the time out of your day and week to relax and refocus because before you know it, the semester will be over.
