SWU
Since its founding in 1906, SWU has been guided by biblical principles and a Christian understanding of the liberal arts as it helps men and women become all God intends them to be.

SWU students discover learning experiences that promote intellectual inquiry, foster spiritual growth, prepare them to serve Jesus Christ and others, and mobilize leaders who transform their world through faith, knowledge, love and hope.



Location

  • Central, South Carolina, 10 minutes from Clemson University
  • 30 minutes from Greenville, Anderson and the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains
  • Two hours from Atlanta and Charlotte
  • The Adult and Graduate Studies program has learning centers in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville and North Augusta. Classes are offered in Greenwood and Spartanburg as well.

Purpose

Southern Wesleyan is a comprehensive university with both undergraduate and graduate programs dedicated to the concept that God is the source of all truth and wisdom. Its purpose is to create an atmosphere in which members of the university community work together toward wholeness through the integration of personal faith, intellectual pursuits, and practical living. The university seeks to meet the needs of students with various abilities and backgrounds, enabling them to realize their personal and professional educational goals.

History

  • Founded in 1906
  • Reorganized as a senior liberal arts college in 1959
  • Changed its name from Central Wesleyan College in October, 1994

  • The international faculty represents South Korea, Nigeria, Brazil, Canada, and France. Other faculty members have worked extensively  overseas in countries such as Russia, the Philippines, Romania, Zambia, England, and. Australia

Student Life

  • 14 clubs and organizations
  • 10 intercollegiate sports: Men’s baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf and soccer. Women’s basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball and volleyball.
  • Campus includes the Campus Life Center, gym and tennis courts. Into the outdoors? Our location gives you easy access to mountain biking trails and horseback riding. Plus, Lake Hartwell and Table Rock, Devil's Fork, and Jones Gap State Parks are nearby. There's also hiking in the spectacular Jocassee Gorges and Blue Ridge Mountains, which are only a short drive away. Whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River is only 40 miles away.

Tuition and Fees

Cost for full-time boarding student: approximately $28,100. This amount is prior to any financial aid being awarded.

Education programs are approved by the South Carolina State Board of Education using the Standards of the National Association of State Directors of Teacher education and Certification (NASDTEC). The School of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Fine Arts programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) for demonstrating excellence in their academic programs.
