Thirty-seven young golfers took part in Kid's Golf Day, the first such event held at Southern Wesleyan University, taking place Sept. 20 at the P.B. Wood Golf Practice Facility and the Atcheson Putting Green, located on the university’s Central campus.

Boys and girls, ranging in ages from 6-13, received personal instruction in golf fundamentals from men's and women's golf team members. They spent the morning working on putting and hitting live shots on the range. Also, Thomas Floyd, a former SWU baseball player and a huddle leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at SWU, led a devotional.

"This event would not have been possible without the hard work of Jason Crawford, athletic director for the Central Parks and Recreation Department; Doug Wilkinson, the men's and women's golf coach at SWU; both the men's and women's golf team – specifically Lacey Land and Liam McCarty, both golf team members and current student leaders in the Recreation and Sport Management Program at SWU; Mac Campbell, regional leader of the Foothills FCA; Chick-Fil-A of Clemson; and TaylorMade," said Clay Bolton, assistant professor of recreation and sport management. "God blessed us with great weather and the parents and citizens of Central and the surrounding community came out and brought their kids for what was a wonderful morning."

Bolton hopes that Kids Golf Day will be an annual collaboration and looks forward to “even better” events in the future.
