Mike Shannon Joins SWU as Assistant Vice President For Student and Spiritual Life
CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan University welcomes Rev. Michael “Mike” Shannon to campus, where he will be Assistant Vice President For Student and Spiritual Life.
Shannon is passionate about ministering and supporting SWU’s community of students as they grow in their faith and pursue service opportunities on campus and around the world.
After completing a Bachelor’s degree and Master of Divinity at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, Shannon served as a pastor for six years before becoming a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and Deputy Command Chaplain for USAF Special Operations Command.
University Chaplain and Vice President of Student Life, Rev. Quint Pitts, said, “I can’t think of a better person to serve as our Assistant Vice President For Student and Spiritual Life than Mike Shannon. The man is completely ‘ate up’ with making a difference for Christ in the lives of young people! It’s what motivated him to serve for over three decades as a military chaplain, and it’s what motivated him to come to Southern Wesleyan. If you spend an hour with Mike, he’s probably going to turn the conversation to reaching young people with the message of Christ.”
Shannon was born in Kansas and traveled the world while serving in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, and U.S. Air Force. He and his wife, Imelda, have been married for 35 years and have two children and three grandchildren. They love spending time with their grandchildren, laughing with friends, and studying God’s word. They are transferring their membership to ALIVE Wesleyan Church.
