Homecoming splashing into Central at SWU

A weekend dripping with free-flowing fun and fellowship, Southern Wesleyan University will hold its "Splish Splash Homecoming" Sept. 26.

"We welcome everyone in the community to join us as Southern Wesleyan University celebrates its annual homecoming," said Joy Bryant, director of alumni and constituent relations. "Bring the whole family and get ready to get wet. All the water rides are free and we hope that everyone feels welcome to come and join the alumni who are returning to visit our campus for homecoming."

On Saturday, Sept. 26, Southern Wesleyan's Central campus will host a variety of activities throughout the day, starting with a women's cross country meet at 10 a.m. and men's cross country meet at 10:45 a.m. A welcome tent will be located on Wesleyan Drive. The first 100 guests to check in at the tent and participate in a limbo contest will receive a SWU beach towel.

The homecoming chapel service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center and will feature Dave Tolan, speaking about SWU alumni who have served in the mission field.

"We hope people will stop by Newton Hobson Chapel and take time to look at the many display tables we will have, which will feature items from missionaries from around the world," Bryant said.

At noon, lunch will begin for all guests at the University Dining Commons. A buffet meal will be $7.50 per person. Special luncheon arrangements will be provided for reunion groups.

The Splish Splash Zone will be open 12:30 - 5 p.m. and is free with registration at the Welcome Tent. A changing area will be provided at Folger Auditorium. Bring a bathing suit or water wear and a towel to enjoy the following:

·    Wet Slide, 18' tall, 32' long, 10' wide
·    Surf Wave, 35' long
·    Wild Splash, 8' wide and 35' long
·    Palm Tree jump house, 15' x 15'
·    Dolphin Slide, 30' long, 10' wide
·    Rock Wall, 28' tall, with attendant

"All ages, even adults, are invited to come and enjoy our rides and explore our campus," Bryant said.

Baseball fans are invited to take a swing at Southern Wesleyan University's Homerun Derby at 1 p.m. at the Dr. Keith Connor Baseball field. Coach Mike Gillespie will present an award to the winner in each age category. The derby is open to boys and girls, as well as youth and adults.

At 2:30 p.m. tours of new university campus additions will leave from the lobby of the University Dining Commons.

"In the afternoon, everyone is invited down by our soccer field for more inflatable rides, barbecue and ice cream floats," Bryant said. "We will have class events, including class raft races beside Bryant Lodge. Barbecue plates will be available from 4 - 7 p.m. for $7.50 per person."

Warrior fans will gather to see Southern Wesleyan University's volleyball team compete against North Greenville at 1 p.m. Also, the SWU Women's Soccer Team will face Truett McConnell at 3 p.m. and the SWU Men's Soccer Team will play Truett McConnell at 5 p.m. A coronation of Southern Wesleyan University's Homecoming King and Queen will take place during halftime of the men's soccer game.
