SWU plans for annual golf tournament
The annual Southern Wesleyan University P.B. Wood Golf Tournament will be teeing off on Oct. 19 at Pickens Country Club.
The tournament raises money for the university's Promise Fund, which supports student scholarships as well as academic and student programs. This event is named in honor of Dr. Paul Baker Wood, a noted psychologist and Southern Wesleyan University professor emeritus.
Dale Gilbert, WYFF-TV personality, will be the tournament's celebrity golfer.
The tournament is captain's choice style and has slots for 36 teams of four. Prizes are awarded to the first, second and third place teams. There are also prizes for the golfer that is closest to the pin and the golfer who has the longest drive. A hole-in-one contest with prizes totaling more than $40,000 will also be part of the tournament.
Plenty of food will top off the day. Breakfast is being provided by Bojangles of Easley, and the mid-day snack will be provided by Chick-fil-a of Anderson. The post-tournament meal will be catered by The Parkette of Pickens, and drinks and snacks will serve to complete the menu for the day.
Golfers can register as a team or as an individual to be placed on a team. The entry fee is $400 per team or $100 per player. This fee covers greens fees, cart fees, a polo shirt, breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day.
Sponsorships are also available at various levels. Tee sponsorships are $100 and hole sponsorships are $250. Corporate sponsorships are $1,000 and include one individual registration fee. Co-sponsorships are $2,500 and include one team registration fee.
