CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan University (SWU) alum Anita Nwankwo, class of ‘17, recently completed Aerospace Medical Service Apprentice (USAF) training in San Antonio, Texas.

Nwankwo earned the Honor Graduate ranking, reflecting her performance at the top of her class. She was the class leader in her division.

“I am very grateful for my time at SWU. My teachers prepared me well for future successes. Dr. Sinnamon is not just a great teacher, he is also a great mentor who checks in from time to time, following up with my academic and life pursuits. I am also grateful for Dr. Johnson and Dr. Tietje, to mention but a few,” said Nwankwo, who holds a BS in Biology from SWU.

The Medical Education & Training Campus (METC), where Nwankwo trained, is a leading military medical education center with 48 medical programs and over 16,000 graduates annually.

“Anita Nwankwo was an amazing student during her time at SWU, and I’ve been honored to be her friend since her graduation. She is brilliant, kind, and joyful. While at SWU, she was involved with the Science Club and tutored many of her fellow students. Since she had a BS in Electrical Engineering prior to coming to SWU, she was so generous with her time and knowledge in assisting younger students and her peers with various Math courses and calculations in upper-level Biology and Chemistry courses,” said Dr. Staci N. Johnson, Chair of the School of Science, Technology, and Mathematics and Associate Professor of Biology.

Dr. Johnson added, “We have watched with pride as she completed her degree in Nursing, moved into the nursing profession, and now serves in the US Air Force. It was no surprise to me that she was an Honor Graduate from the AMSA program. I know she will continue to excel in this new role and believe that Anita is a great example of how our curriculum prepares our students for amazing opportunities in the future.”
