SWU Welcomes New Exercise Science Faculty Member, Dr. Cliff Pawley

    CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan University’s School of Science, Technology, and Mathematics (STeM) is pleased to announce a new Associate Professor of Exercise Science. Dr. Cliff Pawley, Ed.D., ATC, joins SWU as a full-time faculty member after appointments at Southeast Missouri State University, Concordia University Irvine, and Union University.

    Dr. Staci N. Johnson, Chair of the School of Science, Technology, Mathematics, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Pawley to the School of STeM. Not only does he have extensive experience as an educator and professional, he clearly cares about his students. We are excited about what the future holds for our growing Exercise Science major under his leadership.”

    Dr. Pawley is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA), the Midwest Athletic Trainer’s Association, and the Missouri Athletic Trainer’s Association. He has the ATC credential from the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification and has been licensed to practice in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.

    He was appointed to the State of Tennessee Board of Athletic Trainers in 2011 and was a liaison for the Tennessee Athletic Trainer’s Society Education Committee. His clinical practice background includes 10 years of outreach sports medicine practice.

    Dr. Pawley was born in Elkville, Illinois, and served in the United States Navy before pursuing degrees from Southern Illinois University—Carbondale, the University of Louisiana, and Union University. Dr. Pawley has also guided mission trips to Tijuana, Mexico, with Lutheran Border Concerns.

    Dr. Pawley and his wife Sherrie have four daughters and a dog named Memphis. They are active members of Centenary Methodist Church. Dr. Pawley’s interests include bodyboarding, college football, cycling, golf, paddleboarding, pickleball, other outdoor physical activities, reading John Grisham novels, and spending time with his family.
