SWU Welcomes Quint Pitts as Chaplain
CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan University is pleased to announce our new Chaplain, Quint Pitts.
Chaplain Pitts will oversee Student Life on campus, focusing on helping students grow in their faith through chapel worship, speakers, discipleship groups, ministry, and service opportunities locally and worldwide. His wife, Sarah Pitts, will be the Residence Hall Director for the North and South Apartments on Campus.
Former Associate Vice President for Spiritual Life and University Chaplain, Rev. Ken Dill, said, “Chaplain Pitts has varied and deep experiences with college-age students from his time as a military chaplain. Couple that with the skill it takes to plant and grow a thriving multisite church, and you have a winning combination for this unique ministry.”
Born in West Virginia, Pitts completed a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree at Regent University School of Divinity. He served as a youth pastor and was a military chaplain in the Navy Reserve, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve for two decades. He deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan as an embedded chaplain with the U.S. Marine Corps and Special Operations Command.
Pitts is the National Director of Celebrate Recovery’s veteran outreach work and the founder of Horizons Church, home to over 4,000 congregants in West Virginia.
Other than the Bible, Pitts’ favorite earthly possession is the complete set of John Wesley’s works, which his mother gave him when he was a teenager. Pitts and his wife have six children: Josiah, Jenna, Jonathan, Jordan, Joshua, and Jessica. The family is transferring their membership to ALIVE Wesleyan Church.
