Brad Bowen

PROFILE:

Dr. Bowen began his criminal justice career as a Law Enforcement Explorer at the age of fifteen. He later served as an EMT and rescue squad volunteer, and served in the Army National Guard in military police and intelligence positions. Upon becoming a certified law enforcement officer, Bowen served for several years as a deputy sheriff in patrol, administrative, and field-training roles, before transitioning to higher education in 2012. Since that time, he has served in various criminal justice faculty roles at both Tri-County Technical College and Southern Wesleyan University.

From 2016 to 2023, Bowen served as Southern Wesleyan University’s first Director of Campus Safety, where he held certifications as a security officer, security instructor, ALICE instructor, and campus protection officer. He is also a graduate of the National Association of Campus Safety Administrators Command College. In 2023, Bowen transitioned back into a full-time faculty role at Southern Wesleyan University, which is where he feels called to be.

Among other duties at Southern Wesleyan University, Bowen serves on the Title IX Committee, and enjoys leading Global Engagement trips such as humanitarian aid and disaster relief in Florida, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. He also serves on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board and Board of Visitors for Tri-County Technical College. In his spare time, Bowen enjoys folk art, oddities, hiking, attending concerts, and anything relating to animals, especially wildlife rehab and herpetology. He lives with his wife, son, four dogs, seven cats, bearded dragon, hognose snake, desert scorpion, Vietnamese centipede, hissing cockroaches, and death-feigning beetles.
