Dr. Michael Hylen

Prior to joining SWU, Hylen served as an assistant professor of education at Louisiana State University – Shreveport and at Asbury University in Kentucky. At Asbury, he served as Department Chair of Grad Ed. Prior to joining the higher education ranks, Hylen enjoyed a 25-year career as a public and private school educator. His most extensive work was as an alternative high school principal for students with emotional disorders and behavior problems.
Hylen is originally from Cambridge, Mass., and grew up less than a mile from the campus of Harvard University. He quips, "I tell my friends for four years I walked through Harvard, of course it was on my way to my high school located just across the street."
Hylen's first job after college was as an activities director at a boys' home on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. He says it was "challenging yet rewarding work, beautiful place to live."
