2014 P.B. Wood Golf Tournament benefits SWU scholarships

    Golf teams teed off Oct. 13 at Pickens Country Club for Southern Wesleyan University's annual P. B. Wood Golf Tournament, sponsored by First Citizens Bank.

    Prizes were awarded as follows:

    • First Place: P.B. Wood, Pete Wood, Dan Wood and Tom Harding, scoring 57. Each won a set of eight 2015 Mizuno JPX 850 irons. Dr. P.B. Wood generously gave his irons up for another drawing, won by Jay Wright.  
    • Second-place: Larry Looper, Mark Hyatt, Michael Jordan and Chip Reeves, scoring 59. Each won a 2015 Mizuno golf bag.
    • Third-Place: Ken Alexander, David Owens, Chris Zorn and David Pratt, scoring 59. Each won a 2015 Mizuno T wedge.
    • Closest to pin winners: Michael Jordan and Mark Hyatt. Each won a 2015 Mizuno T5 wedge.
    • Putting Contest: Bill Harley, Tony Payne, Dean Duvall and Travis Smith. Each won a Mizuno umbrella.

    “The funds raised from the P.B. Wood Golf Tournament from sponsors support The Promise Fund, which provides student scholarship assistance and uplifts the areas of greatest need for Southern Wesleyan University,” said Dr. Lisa McWherter, vice president for advancement.
